Maryland Republican Party Selects New Leadership Team

ANNAPOLIS—Maryland Republicans elected new leadership for its executive committee. The election of new party officers occurred at the Maryland Republican Party’s Winter Convention.
Dr. James Pelura of Davidsonville was elected Maryland Republican Party Chairman.
Outgoing Chairman John M. Kane stated, “It has been a true honor to serve as State Party Chair over the last four years. I am grateful for the tremendous leadership and example of Governor Ehrlich and Lt. Governor Michael Steele. Together, we have made Maryland better. I know that the Maryland Republican Party will grow stronger with Jim Pelura as Chair. I leave with the knowledge that we accomplished historical benchmarks and a proud legacy together.”
Incoming Chairman Dr. Jim Pelura stated, “We are a group that will work together to present a positive message for Marylanders. I will work actively with our grassroots and legislative leaders to ensure that our Party has renewed relevance and we return to the State House.” Pelura has served as State Chairman of Bush/Cheney 2004 and Anne Arundel County Chairman for Ehrlich for Maryland 2006.
Chris Cavey of Hampstead was elected 1st Vice Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party. Cavey is Chairman of the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee.
Chuck Gast of Piney Oaks was elected 2nd Vice Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party. Gast is the former Chairman of the Anne Arundel Republican Central Committee.
Michael Geppi of Bel Air was elected 3rd Vice Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party. Geppi is Chairman of the Harford County Republican Central Committee.
Rex Reed of Gaithersburg was elected Secretary of the Maryland Republican Party. [emphasis added - webmaster]
Robert C. “Chris” Rosenthal of Edgewater was elected Treasurer of the Maryland Republican Party.

At the annual Grand Old Party, Occtober 1, 2006, The Montgomery County Republican Central Committee announced the following award winners:
- ALBERT BULLOCK YOUTH AWARD – Presented to Shu Shi "to honor and recognize outstanding achievement and work for the Montgomery County Republican Party in 2005 by a person under the age of 25".
- FORBES BLAIR AWARD - Presented to Maria De Maria "to honor and recognize lifetime achievement and work for the Montgomery County Republican Party by an individual".
- REPUBLICAN MAN OF THE YEAR – Presented to Sam Penner "to honor and recognize outstanding achievement and work for the Montgomery County Republican Party in 2005 by a man".
- REPUBLICAN WOMAN OF THE YEAR - Presented to Janice Connolly "to honor and recognize outstanding achievement and work for the Montgomery County Republican Party in 2005 by a woman.
- Chairman's Award - Presented to Sam Malhotra "for supporting the Chairman and the MC GOP with over $15,000 in fundraising in 2005.
The first four listed awards are presented annually by vote of the Central Committee, based on nominations submitted by party members.

US Army to Use MCRP Website Article
The US Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Ft Leavenworth, KS, has request permission to reprint "About the Republican Party, History" from the MCRP website. The article is to be used for classroom instruction to instruct foreign officer students on the American politics system. CGSC plans to reprint 110 copies for P190 International Military Student Preparatory course, AY05-06.
