Anna Crow

Anna Crow is one of the most determined and hard working activists for the Montgomery County GOP. Throughout 2006 she worked tirelessly for Republicans, particularly on the re-election of Governor Bob Ehrlich. Anna organized all of the county events for the Ehrlich campaign which included a presence in parades, booths, and tents in various communities from Clarksburg to Bethesda. Sylvia Darrow, who chaired Gov. Ehrlich’s Montgomery County campaign, has this to add: “Anna was always there with tubs of handouts, candy, bumper stickers, and other important supplies! I could always depend on Anna to be there . . . She is continuing her tradition this year by helping with the Maryland Federation of Republican Women Voter Registration.” Anna possesses a “quiet strength” that has been invaluable to District 39 Republicans, according to Central Committee member Bill Witham, who worked closely with her on the Bush-Cheney 04 campaign: “Without her help, it would have been like a ‘ship without a sail.’”

A resident of Germantown in District 39, Anna also founded the Upper Montgomery Women’s Republican Club last year to fill a need in that area of the county. According to Patti Witham, who serves as vice president of that club, Anna is “one of the most dedicated and devoted women to the Republican Party. . . Her Republican convictions help keep my own convictions strong and I am proud to call her a friend and fellow Republican.” Anna also serves on the board of the Montgomery County Federation of Republican Women (MCFRW).

When it comes to issues, Anna is especially passionate about supporting our troops. Last month she arranged a tour of Fisher House at Walter Reed, and plans to do it again. Participants brought gift cards to distribute to families of wounded soldiers. Anna would like to see more GOP focus in two other areas: voter registration and outreach. Now that voter registration drives will be taking place in the high schools, she believes it is essential to have a Republican presence that informs students of the real differences between the parties and to dispel myths about the GOP. Anna says that the MCFRW’s Republican presence at Rockville’s Hometown Days was a wonderful experience in part because of the numerous Republicans who came up to the booth to express their gratitude for seeing an open and friendly political presence in Montgomery County.

Anna first began working for candidates in 1996, with the Dole-Kemp campaign. But when Clinton won that year, she became truly energized to promote the Republican party in any way she could: “I decided I was too old to join the army so I’d do what I could to be patriotic and help save the country!” At the time, she lived in Colorado where she witnessed the election of Bill Owens, the first Republican governor there in over 20 years. She also belonged to a very active women’s club there, then continued to be active when she moved to Nebraska in 2000. After moving to Maryland in 2003, one of the first things she did was look for a Republican club to join and the opportunity to work for the reelection of President Bush in 2004. She quickly got to know many Montgomery County GOP activists. Anna was a special education teacher for several years. She attends McLean Presbyterian Church, and her hobbies include reading and book collecting.
